TRAINING PROGRAM : CLOTHING ALTERATIONS
This CLOTHING ALTERATION COURSE at The Sewing Workshop™, is the only course in Brisbane who trains the students who wish to embark on a career in clothing alterations to obtain a job as an Alteration hand, start their own business or for those who would like to learn how to alter their clothing for themself and their family.
Ana Fataccioli, founder of The Sewing Workshop™ has realized that this business is a boom business these days. Why??... Because the clothing imported from overseas, in shops or even from the internet, are so cheap that sometimes it is impossible to resist to buying (especially for those who don’t have sewing skills)... but... Also we realize the fitting is not the same as made to measure, and people need somebody or somewhere to go to get their clothing altered.
That is why, Ana in 2005, set up her clothing alteration business “Alter to Fit”© which operates together on the same premises as the School. The school and the shop are linked together. Theory and practice.... The Sewing Workshop™ and Alter to Fit© are authorities in Brisbane in Clothing Alterations, in teaching and learning.
In the last 5 years Ana has gained even more experience in alteration techniques, tricks of the trade, new alteration techniques, timing, prices per alteration, and aspects related to managing a clothing alteration business... From Jeans... to Bridal.©
So, Ana, in her usual attitude to pass all her knowledge, she developed this training program in four levels, and those are the techniques you could learn on each of them:
LEVEL I.-
- Hems for trousers, skirts, blouses, tops, jeans.
- Trouser’s hems with cuffs.
- Zippers: centred , lapped, invisible, fly front zipper.
- Repairs: sew rips and splits, pulled seams, tears, holes, mending, creative mending.
- Sew buttons and buttonholes by machine.
- Time management and taking records.
Level I course duration: one block of 5 lessons. (The student should have basic knowledge of sewing before entering in this training program).
Fees: $250 per block of 5 lessons during mornings
$295 per block of 5 lessons during nights.
LEVEL II.-
- Learn to do fittings for clients. Student observation.
- Take in and let out on pants, on centre back.
- Take in on dresses on sides, or make darts.
- Lifted the shoulders, reshaping the neckline and armhole.
- Re-set sleeves.
- Sleeve length on shirts.- move cuffs up. Re-make plackets.
- Time management.
Fees: $250 per block of 5 lessons during mornings.
$295 per block of 5 lessons during nights.
LEVEL III.-
- Lined garments: how to pin and mark.
- Jackets alterations: Take in Centre back or sides. Reduce shoulders length.
- Shorten/lengthen sleeve Jackets with sleeve vent, buttons and buttonholes.
- Shorten the length of the Jackets. Reproduce the original hem shape.
- Change the lapel design to modern lapel.
- Covert double breast Jackets to standard Jackets.
- Take in dresses with lining .
Fees: $250 per block of 5 lessons durning mornings.
$295 per block of 5 lessons during nights.
LEVEL IV.-
This level allows you to work with Formal and Bridal wear alterations
- From take in and let out with boning.
- Working with lace, beadings.
- Working with multiple layers of fabrics.
- Alter the length of wedding dresses from the bottom or waist.
- Create Bustle for wedding and formal dresses.
- Work with complex solutions founded in particular garments.
Level IV course duration : Two blocks of 5 lessons, or more if the students want to learn more.
Time for the four levels: Only mornings weekdays from 9.30 am to 1 pm.
Fees: $295 per block of 5 lessons, during the week.
What to Bring to lessons: Your sewing equipment and second hand clothing. So, by doing alterations for friends, relatives or yourself, while you are doing the course even at a cheap rates, the course pays for itself, and you have your material for learning.
Certificate of attendance and completion of the program will be given to the student.
